Ubuntu User? Ubuntu One User? Evernote User? Yes, Yes and Yes… Why not install Nitro and sync your notes to Ubuntu One or Dropbox.

Now I’ll be honest and say when I first installed Nitro it didn’t sync but I’ve just done a system update and hey presto…. Enjoy!

To install, just paste the following code into your terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cooperjona/nitrotasks &&
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install nitrotasks

Unity was introduced with Ubuntu Netbook edition 10.10, designed to use what limited desktop space was available more efficiently.  There are numerous Unity Lenses available for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, I’ve select a few of my favourites from Scopes Packagers, Mark Tully, atareao-team

ubuntu one

I admit it, I love all things Ubuntu, Linux and OpenSource.  I also love accessing my files, not all, from the cloud and with so many service providers to choose from it can be a difficult choice!   Unless of course you use Ubuntu in which case the choice is simple….. Ubuntu One!

Ubuntu One provides 5GB of free storage, additional space can purchased using PayPal, to sync and share your documents.  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, has in my opinion, vastly improved the integration of Ubuntu One with the desktop, just click on the envelope icon select Ubuntu One and follow the easy steps to setup your cloud space and sync.  Accessing your cloud then has never been easier with apps for Android, iPhone and Windows your never going to be without your data.

vortexbox

Supporting all things free and open source VortexBox is a must media server.  If like me you have plenty of kit sitting around doing nothing download this ISO and convert an unused computer into a media server!  Once installed VortexBox will automatically rip CDs to FLAC and MP3 and DVD’s to MKV and MP4 as well downloading the cover art.

Vortex Download

Tips

  1. Unless you have unlimited storage, say 1 or 2TB hard drive, consider deleting the FLAC files once VortexBox has converted to MP3
  2. Like wise with DVD’s, consider deleting the MKV files once VortexBox has converted to MP4
